Install
- Open the downloaded
vmount-latest.pkg - Follow the installer prompts (administrator password required to install the privileged HelperTool)
- Launch vmount from /Applications
The installer places /Applications/vmount.app
and bootstraps a privileged HelperTool at
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.vmount.helper.
No reboot required.
System requirements
- Apple Silicon Mac — M1, M2, M3, M4 (Intel Macs not supported)
- macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer
- ~8 GB RAM recommended (the Linux microVM uses ~512 MB)
- ~200 MB free disk (app + cached kernel/initramfs)
Verifying the download
vmount is signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. macOS Gatekeeper will verify both automatically when you open the .pkg. To check by hand:
spctl --assess -v /Applications/vmount.app— should print "accepted"codesign -dv --verbose=4 /Applications/vmount.app— confirms our Team ID
